At a time when survivors are being urged to come forward to disclose historical abuse, it is appalling to witness the impending closure of specialist services across the UK; services well placed to hear, respond and support people through the devastation of abuse. It’s already been stated elsewhere but the revelations of systemic abuse in institutions and by high profile individuals in positions of power that have emerged in recent years, are just the tip of the iceberg. The scale of this needs to be acknowledged, the silence broken and adequately funded services available so that it is and remains ‘safe to say’ for survivors.
